Overview
The 2025 Genesis GV80 isn’t just a sight; it’s a showstopper, even at rest. A former 10Best award winner, this sophisticated SUV redefines luxury with a sweet surprise—an impressively low starting price that makes rivals like Porsche and BMW green with envy. Under the hood lies a standard 300-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder, though it’s limited to two rows of seating. For those seeking excitement, the 375-hp twin-turbo V-6 awaits, offering the thrill of a third row and seating for up to seven adventurers.
Every GV80 boasts an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Step inside, and you’ll discover a plush sanctuary: heated and cooled seats for all, plus cozy heated armrests. Even on the highway, the ride whispers, ensuring comfort for every journey.

2025: What’s New?
The Genesis GV80 receives some significant and new equipment upgrades for 2025. Although it takes a moment or two to see the difference in style, the luxury mid-size SUV has a redesigned grille and what the company refers to as Micro Lens Array headlights from the G90 sedan. New wheel styles are available, with possibilities for 20- and 22-inch wheels.
Green is a new color option that comes in glossy and matte finishes. On the inside, a huge 27.0-inch touchscreen now serves as both the infotainment display and instrument cluster for the GV80. For 2025, Genesis has added three new interior color options: Glacier White, Bordeaux Brown, and Earth Brown. A separate assessment of the new GV80 Coupe variant is also available.
Pricing and Options
Let’s start with pricing. The Genesis GV80 Coupe is priced reasonably for its class. The starting price is around $130,000 for the wagon version, which seats seven. If you prefer the six-seater with captain’s chairs, it costs about $133,000. The five-seater coupe version, which is what I have, starts at $136,000. While some might be sad to see the four-cylinder petrol and turbo diesel options go, the twin-turbo V6 engine is excellent and offers plenty of power.

Design and Exterior
When it comes to looks, the GV80 Coupe is a head-turner. The facelift has made it even more appealing, with a classic split headlight design and a striking new blue color. The daytime running lights are bright, and the massive chrome grille resembles the Genesis crest, adding a touch of elegance. The rear end is swoopy and stylish, resembling a high-end handbag. The tail lights are also unique, continuing the design theme from the front. Overall, the GV80 Coupe looks fantastic on the road and often makes people stop and stare.
Interior Features
The interior is where the GV80 truly shines. It features a 27-inch OLED display that seamlessly integrates navigation and infotainment. Initially, I had concerns about the infotainment system, especially since it only had wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. But with an over-the-air update, wireless connectivity was added, which made using the system much easier.

The materials used throughout the cabin are top-notch. Nappa leather covers the seats, which are incredibly comfortable and have numerous adjustments, including massage functions. The center console is well-designed, with heating controls and a wireless charger. There’s also a unique feature that allows you to disinfect your phone using UV light. It’s a small touch, but it’s nice to see such attention to detail.
Performance
Under the hood, the GV80 Coupe boasts a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, producing 279 kW of power and 530 Nm of torque. This SUV is quick, with a claimed 0 to 100 km/h time of 5.7 seconds. I did a launch test and clocked it at around 6.08 seconds, which is impressive for a vehicle of this size. The ride quality is also exceptional. Despite the large 22-inch wheels, the suspension is comfortable and absorbs bumps well, making it a joy to drive.

However, it’s worth noting that it does have body roll typical of larger SUVs, but that’s expected. It’s not a sports car, but it handles corners better than many competitors. The steering is responsive, and the adaptive dampers adjust according to the road conditions, providing a smooth ride.
Comfort and Space
With its coupe design, the GV80 sacrifices some practicality, offering 644 liters of boot space, which is less than the regular GV80. However, it still provides enough room for daily use. The rear seats are comfortable and come with their own climate control, heated and cooled seats, and USB charging ports. There’s also ample legroom, even for taller passengers.

Technology and Safety
The GV80 is loaded with technology. It includes a high-quality sound system that features 18 speakers, delivering an incredible audio experience. Additionally, it has advanced safety features like adaptive cruise control and a blind-spot monitoring system. However, I did find the safety system overly sensitive; it beeps if you exceed the speed limit by even 1 km/h, which can be annoying.
Fuel Efficiency
Fuel consumption has been a downside, averaging around 13.9 L per 100 km. This is not great, especially for a luxury SUV, but considering the power and size, it’s somewhat expected.

Final Thoughts
After nearly nine months with the Genesis GV80 Coupe, I can confidently say it competes well against established luxury brands like BMW and Mercedes-Benz. While it may not be the cheapest option, it offers excellent value for the features and comfort it provides. The GV80 Coupe is a well-rounded vehicle that excels in many areas, making it a strong contender in the luxury SUV market.
