What Devices Will Work with tvOS 18?
You’ll need one of the following to use tvOS 18:
- Apple TV HD (2015)
- Apple TV 4K (2017)
- Apple TV 4K (2nd and 3rd generation)
All models of HomePod are also compatible.
Update Your Device
To update your Apple TV:
Go to Settings > System > Software Update from your Apple TV. Then select the update and wait for your device to download and install it.
For HomePods: Open the Apple Home app, navigate to Home Settings, and follow the prompts for a software update.

Insight Feature
Also new in Hulu is the Insight feature. It’s a wonderful addition that feels a lot like Amazon’s X-Ray. You can see details about the cast, the music playing while viewing a movie, and even add songs to your library while on this screen.
Automatic Subtitles
Another favorite new feature is the Automatic Subtitles. When you go back in a show or mute the sound, subtitles automatically appear. That’s perfect for times when you miss something because of low volume or distractions.
Dialogue Enhanced
Another convenient feature is Enhanced Audio. This technology uses machine learning to make your audio in real-time much clearer. You can allow this feature when you go to Audio and Video settings. And through this feature, you’ll enjoy good voice clarity without needing some special sound equipment.
Fitness Plus Updates
Fitness Plus, which was released on March 2021, received an update. It features a new look and provides fitSuggestion personal workout recommendations. This allows you to discover workouts that suit your preferences.

Now you can also control your Apple TV with your Apple Watch. The Remote app on your watch lets you turn it up, mute it, turn the subtitles on and off, and much, much more-whichever you want to do-from wherever you are.

You can also use your phone as a remote. With a swipe from the top you can bring up the remote and turn on your TV and that signs you in, but it saves you time.
New Screen Savers
On tvOS 18, new screen savers feature a Portraits feature that gives your screen dynamic vibrancy. If you have a projector, you now get to enjoy the 21:9 format for an even broader view.
Updates on FaceTime
You can now use your iPad or iPhone as a camera for FaceTime on your Apple TV. Mount it above or below your TV to take in video calls with ease. Live captions can also be used, showing on the screen of what people have to say.
