Bagheera: A New Superhero Film from India

Bagheera: Film industry does a good job by doing the good work. But, some people somewhere go ahead and bring all the good work to ruin with over-smartness. However, there is a production house called Home Productions which we can almost blindly trust. They have given us some fantastic films like KGF, Kantara, and Salaar. This time they come back with another superhero film. First, we never thought that we would talk about it. But it seems India has finally got its own desi Batman. By the term desi, I mean as Indian as you could get. I am talking about Bagheera.

And behind this film stands the mastermind Prashanth Neel. He may not be the director, but his story is. Whenever Prashanth Neel pens something, Indian cinema is never the same. He teaches us how to earn 100 crores to 1100 crores. Right now, it’s all about the content. This time, it’s not all about action. The aim is to create cinema that will have both mass and class audiences terming Neel as a champion.

Concept of Bagheera

The trailer of Bagheera is just like the flashback of Batman. It has a superhero killing not only the criminals but burning them. They do not try to catch him by police; on the other hand, they cheer him. Society feels safer instead of scared. The concept is fantastic! Honestly, I don’t get why other industries didn’t try something close to Batman before.

There was one film called Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, which still is one of the best superhero films made in Bollywood. Bagheera reminds us a bit of that film. However, the amazing part is that while Batman is great, the story comes from Prashanth Neel’s mind. This shows a connection to KGF and Salaar. I am not talking about a universe; that may start after Salaar 2, connecting to KGF Chapter 3. This is all for later.

Dark Themes and Surprise Elements

Bagheera has a dark theme. It presents a hero as a villain, hiding a dangerous secret in the past. What surprised me the most was a scene reminiscent of Kabir Singh. They included a slap scene in the trailer, showing that something different is happening. Bagheera might not be as easy and simple as it seems after watching the trailer. There is some strong suspense and mystery hidden in it.

In terms of budget, it is not very high- just 30-40 crores for the film. That is why the visual effects cannot be of the higher level seen in KGF or Salaar. Also, all the dark scenes will not appeal to all since the detailing is drowned there. All the movies by Rajamouli are colorful and shiny. In Bagheera, the action is decent. Not at the Hollywood level or even the movie magic of presentation seen in KGF and Salaar.

Lead Actor and Film Links

Anyways, the lead actor in Bagheera is Sriimurali. He began his cinematic journey with Prashanth Neel in the film Ugram, which has become cult in Kannada cinema. Salaar did take much from that film, and it was a tribute to that film too. Personally, I feel that the story of Bagheera should be bigger than KGF and Salaar, in the aspect of depth in the characters.

However, the Bagheera promotional campaign tells us the converse-the filmmakers appear to be lacking confidence in the movie. But no matter how hard they try, it’s going to be quite tough to match Yash and Prabhas. The reason is that there is very low hype and excitement over the film. The makers have missed the opportunity to gain an advantage by considering the Prashanth Neel universe.

Trailer Quality and Audience Reach

The teaser quality appears to be better than the trailer quality. However, the time that has taken to release the film has drifted the pan-India audience from the film. There is a disquieting possibility of not releasing the film in Hindi. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but it is true that the trailer and songs have not released in Hindi. On 31st October, it will be a battle of Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. If that is the case, then getting the shows for Bagheera is going to be really tough.

Forgetting, just in case, Kantara was not actually released in Hindi. But the content was so strong that later on, the film made nearly 100 crores in Hindi. So, here goes! If Bagheera’s story somehow matches the levels of KGF and Salaar, then we might well get a Hindi version of the film. But right now, from the trailer, it does not appear to be a pan-India film. It seems to be regional cinema that does not wish to compete with KGF and Salaar.

Final Thoughts

So, what’s your take on this? Is it like you are relating Bagheera with KGF and Salaar? Or do you think the level of Yash and Prabhas is unmatched? Kannada industry needs better luck next time. If you liked some aspect from this discussion or complaints. Otherwise, just wait a while, and I’ll meet you in the next blog. Take care, bye-bye!
