Den of Thieves 2: Pantera – A Fun Start to 2025

Hey everyone! Today, we will talk about the movie Den of Thieves 2: Pantera. It is finally 2025, and we have a new year of movies and shows. January is usually not the best month for movies. Many studios put out films they do not believe in during this time. However, in the last few years, January has had some good movies. So, I hope that Gerard Butler and his team can start 2025 on a high note.

Big Nick is back! He is on the hunt in Europe. He is trying to catch Donnie, who is involved with diamond thieves and the Panther Mafia. They are planning a big heist at the world’s largest diamond exchange. At one point, I forgot that Den of Thieves was getting a sequel. I liked the first movie. It was a fun throwback to classic heist thrillers. It was not mind-blowing, but it was a good time.

One big problem is that it took a long time to make this sequel. The first Den of Thieves came out in 2018, and now it is 2025. That is seven years! To put that in perspective, Avengers: Infinity War came out in 2018, not even Avengers: Endgame. Also, LeBron James was still on the Cavaliers! He wasn’t even on the Lakers yet. I am not a Hollywood expert, but I think they missed the best time to make a sequel.

Den of Thieves 2: Pantera does bring back many things I enjoyed from the first film. The scale is much larger this time. The heist happens in Europe, making everything feel more intense. The best part of the sequel is definitely the action. The movie really ups the ante with different styles of action that will get your heart racing. Many of the action scenes are shot well, which is important. Sometimes, action movies do not do a good job with this. The showdowns with the Panther Mafia are thrilling. The heist itself is also very exciting.

There are some twists and turns in this sequel. One big twist is about Gerard Butler’s character, Big Nick. In the first movie, he was a cop trying to stop heists. In this sequel, he dives into the criminal world and teams up with O’Shea Jackson Jr.’s character, Donnie. The movie even markets this change with the tagline, “The cop goes gangster.” I do not think this tagline is great, but it is what it is. They work well together in the sequel, just like in the first movie.

The dynamic between Big Nick and Donnie shifts a bit after a big reveal in the first film. The formula of enemies teaming up is common in action movies. We see this often in movies like the Fast and Furious franchise. If you changed a few details, Den of Thieves 2 could fit right into the middle of those films. You have eccentric characters, an international setting, and a mix of serious and funny moments. You could easily swap out O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Gerard Butler with The Rock and Vin Diesel, and it would not change much.

One of the marketing points of the movie is its twists. The first Den of Thieves had a great twist. I will not spoil anything in the sequel, but I feel like the twists are not as big or shocking this time. Many are predictable. Still, if you enjoyed the first Den of Thieves, you will likely enjoy Den of Thieves 2: Pantera even more. It is a classic example of a serviceable sequel.

In conclusion, I believe they waited too long to make this sequel. It is not a terrible movie at all. It would have benefited from being released two or three years sooner. I would love to hear your thoughts after you see Den of Thieves 2: Pantera. 2025 has just begun, and there are many more movies and shows coming soon. Thank you for reading!
