Unpredictable events have always characterized the POLITICAL atmosphere in DELHI. Most recently, the President decided to give the Lieutenant Governor of DELHI more powers. The new turn was an occasion for a new face-off between him and government. In this article I will analyze various aspects of this fresh set-up and the consequences it may bring.

DELHI LG wins new powers
President Draupadi Murmu has awarded powers to the LG of DELHI to set up different authorities, boards, commissions and statutory bodies as well as to select their members.
The instructions originate from the Ministry of Home Affairs. They all fall under Parliament’s legislation for DELHI.
• DELHI Women’s Commission
• DELHI Electricity Regulatory Commission
Under this new regulation, the LG may now appoint members of these organizations. This move could further exacerbate the ongoing dispute between the DELHI government and the LG.
Aam Aadmi and LG: War breaks out
The power of LG, the AAP government has always felt, must be brought into question. In the recent situation, the powers of LG have become an entirely new crisis for them. These powers, which had already been controversial, become even more important now that LG is empowered to use them.
The central government’s move to deliberately weaken the power of the AAP government is being alleged by the DELHI government. It means the matter is now even more complicated with the political situation of DELHI.

LG intervenes in MCD elections
LG was also acting in the MCD elections. The mayor had failed to notify the appointment of vice-chairmen, so he told the MCD commissioner to do so. Thus, LG used his unique authority in the elections.
The mayor responded to LG’s action and charged that the councilors had been unable to get their nominations in on time. In this way, another new conflict between LG and the mayor comes about.
Complications of a very unpredicable political situation
Unpredictable has always been the political atmosphere in DELHI. With LG and the new power it brings into play, the struggle between parties is only continuing to increase as that struggle becomes more bitter.
For AAP to deal with this new situation, will have to rearrange its strategy. The LIV may present a new foe.

The new powers given to LG in DELHI represent a major challenge for the AAP government. This political encounter is of significance not only at local level but also in nationality. The coming period will be how AAP faces this situation and if they can challenge the new power of LG.
That is how the political situation of DELHI once more becomes the subject of discussion. Whoever has eyes ought to think about this business and then again when we see how it moves on.
